The Coalition of Immokalee Workers has been calling on Wendy’s restaurants to join their Fair Food Program to provide protections to farmworkers in the company’s supply chain. As part of the campaign, the Coalition pressured billionaire hedge fund manager Nelson Peltz, who owns a significant stake in Wendy’s through his hedge fund. The farmworkers have protested in Palm Beach, where Peltz lives, and engaged Wendy’s investors to vote against keeping Peltz as the Chairman of Wendy’s board.
What to look for: What do they own? Tracking down information on a person’s investments can be challenging, but it is sometimes possible to find. When you’re trying to find someone’s investments, remember that board and employment relationships are often indicative of ownership.
Where to find it: Google! Look for press clips on major investments. If they are or were a public official, they will have filed a financial disclosure form. For example, you can search financial disclosure forms from Senators and U.S. Representatives.
